We broke ground today in the back yard. The girls knew this day was coming, but they still seemed uncertain and even a little nervous about it. Early this morning, before the digging started, Ashlyn was asking me questions about it. The conversation went something like this:
Ashlyn--"Is he going to dig up everything?"
Me--"Yes."
Ashlyn--"Even the weeds?"
Me--"Yep."
Ashlyn--"But those are my favorite weeds!"
Around mid-morning, I came downstairs with Josiah, and Ashlyn loudly exclaimed, "Mom! He's in the house!" And sure enough, the contractor was standing in our family room, taking some measurements, just like he said he would be. Next, completely within earshot, Ashlyn said, "Mom, can you ask him if he's nice?" And so the morning went...
When it was time for Josiah to take his morning nap, he wanted nothing to do with it. The digging out back wasn't very noisy, so that wasn't the problem. It's possible that his stuffy nose was the problem. Or it's possible that he's just a boy and wanted to be downstairs watching the digger dig!
Ashlyn provided me with regular updates throughout the morning, and they all sounded about like this, "The digger made the hole even BIGGER! And now it's the biggest hole I've EVER seen!"
Today's work was finished in the early afternoon, and now we have one big hole, and a gigantic pile of dirt to show for it.
Check back regularly and I'll try to stay updated on the progress being made.
