We celebrated a happy little Easter here among ourselves. In the lead-up to Easter, the kids did a number of craft projects. Their favorite seemed to be these clothes pin eggs we made.
I cut out egg shapes from glittery craft foam, cut the eggs in half, and the girls decorated them. Then I glued clothes pins and a little chick to the back. When the eggs were dry, the girls loved peeking at the chicks in the eggs.
On Saturday, we went over to Living History Farms for their Easter party. (I had gotten some free tickets from them for helping with a survey earlier in the month.) Unfortunately, the morning of the party was cold and rainy. Not the best weather for an outside party. The kids had a fun time, even though we all came home chilled to the bone.
Josiah liked the animals--especially the bunnies that he got to pet. He wanted to ride the ponies (which were just for looking at) and he thought the little black pig was a lion. Hmmm... maybe we need to work on animals a little more. The girls tried their hand at rolling eggs the old fashioned way, and they each got to do an egg or toy hunt. Josiah did an egg hunt too--he was only interested in the green eggs.
Later that afternoon, I tried my hand at making some "bunny biscuits." They didn't turn out quite as I had hoped--a little more like fat mice or cats, perhaps? But we all agreed they tasted good, and that's probably what matters more.
On Sunday morning, the girls did a scavenger hunt for their eggs and baskets. It was similar to the one they did last year, using Bible verses as their clues. They remembered it from last year and asked to do it again. Who am I to say no to that?!
Then everyone got all dressed up and headed for church.
One of my favorite parts of the Easter service was getting to see and hear a good friend of mine perform a song she wrote. Later that day we had dinner with that same friend and her family. Josiah was infatuated with their oldest daughter, and rarely left her side the whole evening. He's still asking, even today, when he'll get to see her again. We're going to have to keep an eye on that boy!
