But it's not all bad. A lot of the activities have centered around birthdays and family visits. Last weekend we were celebrating Ashlyn's birthday. My family came out to visit for the weekend, which was a lot of fun. We spent Saturday morning at Learnapalooza, where the kids got to explore a helicopter, fire trucks, ambulances, and other big trucks.
Inside, they visited with princesses, got their faces painted, jumped in a bounce house, and played games.
And don't forget the bugs! There were giant bugs that made grown men cringe. But my girls, not knowing any better, thought they'd make good pets. They spent the longest time, entranced by the bugs, petting the bugs, and letting them crawl around on their hands and arms. Eeek!
Back at home, we spent the rest of the day visiting, shopping, and opening birthday presents. In the evening Josiah and my nephew, Nathan, played in the bath together and wore matching pj's. Both of which they thought were very fun!
Sunday morning came too quickly, and they had to start their long drive back home. So this whole past week we heard Josiah talking about Grandma, Grandpa, Erin and Nathan, and asking about when we'd see them again. To say the least, the boy was probably a bit confused when we told him Grandma and Grandpa (another set) would be coming out this weekend. Dakota's parents came up for part of the day on Saturday.
We had some chocolate cupcakes with "grass" and animals on top.
The first thing Josiah did after we sang to him was to pull the cow off his cupcake and stick it in his mouth. We though he was just trying to lick the frosting off of it. But he kept sticking it back in his mouth, and in different ways. And finally he said to us in an exasperated tone, "I can't eat this!" We all burst out laughing. The animals were not edible--they were just from our Little People farm set.
He liked his cake a whole lot more this year than last year. Last year he seemed afraid to touch it (or let it touch him). He screamed and cried and wouldn't even let us try to feed it to him. He wanted nothing to do with cake then. But that was then. This is now...
After cake, we opened some presents. He got some new rain boots, stacking boxes, puzzles, and a Thomas the Train scooter.
Usually he is fighting the girls to be able to play with their scooters outside, so we found him one of his own. After we gave it to him, the girls were fighting him for a chance to play with it!
And after all the dreary, cold and rain we had this past week, it was nice to get a few peeks at the sun and be able to get outside at least a little bit. The girls enjoyed having grandma read them a story outside.
All in all, it has been a very full month, with all the birthdays, family plans, and other activities going on. We're thankful for the fullness of life we have, but I'm also looking forward to a bit of a lull in the action--maybe sometime in May?? Or maybe it'll be a bit longer if this little guy gets his way. (Like another 16 years!) :D
