We've had some interesting weather in the last week or so. No more blizzards or giant storms, thankfully. We warmed up a bit and had some melting. The melting induced a London-type fog that stuck around for several days. And on and off, we've also been experiencing these "snow bursts," which are quick little showers of snow that last long enough to put a pretty dusting on the trees, and then they're gone.
But this morning we had something new--spikey snow. I'd like to know what causes it. It was very interesting to see all the bushes and trees covered with these delicate little snow thorns.
Tomorrow they're predicting an ice storm for here in central Iowa. I think I'd rather just stick with the spikey snow.

the weathermen here say it's caused by "freezing fog". yup. for real. never heard of it but apparently that's what it does!
The "spiky snow" on the trees and bushes recently is technically called Hoar Frost. It's pretty cool, isn't it?
