A Rite of Passage
Emma recently experienced what is, for girls, a most necessary and important rite of passage--her first sleepover. She was invited to spend the night at her best friend, Natalie's house, and she jumped at the chance. (You would have thought we were telling her she was going to Disney World when we presented the idea.) The girls insisted on wearing their matching BFF shirts for the event. The evening started off with popcorn and a movie--a new American Girl adventure with Kit. The girls got to bed kind of late, but that's the way it goes at a sleepover. Emma said it was kind of hard to go to sleep, because it was so exciting to get to sleep at Natalie's house. In the morning the girls were served blueberry-banana pancakes, and Emma filled up on them! She told me two of the best parts of the sleepover were getting to play with Natalie's new Light Bright after breakfast, and having Natalie paint her nails with some special nail polish she got for Christmas. She came home tired but happy. I was just happy not to get a phone call in the middle of the night from a little girl wanting to come home. The first of what I'm sure will be many sleepovers was a success!
