I know tomorrow is Easter, so technically the hunt is supposed to begin tomorrow. But there were lots of places doing Easter egg hunts or holding other activities for kids today. First, Dakota took Emma to Hy-Vee, because he need to get a couple things. And while they were there, Emma got to find an Easter egg in the store, turn it in for a prize (a bag full of sugary snacks), decorate a couple of hard boiled eggs, get some rabbit ears, and see the Easter bunny (again).
Later in the morning, Emma and went to the church were our weekly playgroup meets for some more fun. The church really went all out. They said they were planning for about 60 kids to show up, but they easily had enough stuff for double that number. And I'd guess there were maybe 30-40 kids who came. The time started with an Easter story, then the kids colored bags to gather their eggs in. After that, the hunt was on. Kids age 4 and under could hunt inside a few rooms of the church for eggs, while the older kids went searching outside. Emma cleared one room with one other little girl and then decided she'd rather be outside. Even though the big kids had been gathering the outdoor eggs for several minutes, there were still hundreds of eggs left. Emma filled her bag, and then worked on filling my pockets. The organizer said they had prepared more than 1,300 eggs for today; we brought home more than our fair share! And every egg was filled with something--candy, little toys, coins, etc. 
After the egg gathering, we headed back inside for craft time. There were three kinds of crafts the kids could make. Emma decorated two foam egg magnets.
Then they had some food, and finally the kids got to make a "goody" bag on their way out. Did they really need more goodies?? Oh well. It was fun. Emma had a good time, and it was nice that it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded with kids. I wouldn't mind going back to that one again next year.
