And speaking of walks, the other day the kids and I went for a walk, and I let them collect as many leaves as their little plastic bags could hold. Boy, did they test the limits of those bags!
When we arrived home, I piled the leaves on two plates and let them sit out for a couple more days. (The idea here is to get the leaves as dry and crunchy as possible. This project works best with crisp, crunchy leaves.)
After I decided the leaves were sufficiently crispy, we smashed them up. Now, if you're not big on messes, you might want to do this part yourself. Discard the stems, and smash the leaves up into itty-bitty pieces. Set them aside in a bowl or some other container.
Then have your child draw a simple fall picture on a piece of paper. Keep the design simple--small details don't work well with this project. My girls chose trees, a pumpkin and a leaf.
Once the designs are drawn, trace over the lines with glue. (Not glue sticks) Then let your child sprinkle the leaf glitter all over the lines of glue. Gently pat the leaves down, and then turn the paper over to remove the excess leaves. Set the picture aside to dry.
My girls had a fun time with this project, and would like to have done more pictures, but we ran out of leaf glitter for the day. Have fun making your own pictures!
