It was a Happy Halloween

Unicorns, and pirates, and more pirates!  Oh my!

OK, so maybe it wasn't very scary.  Maybe it was actually more cute and funny.  Emma and Josiah were pirates, and Ashlyn was a rainbow-unicorn rider.

The Halloween season came and went, and so did a lot of candy!

Our Halloween season lasted about a week and a half this year.  First there was the annual pumpkin carving party at Dakota's co-worker's house.  Emma tried carving some of her own pumpkin this year.  Ashlyn helped design her pumpkin's face, but she wanted nothing to do with what was inside!

Then the next week, there was The Great Pumpkin Party at our church.

The girls had fun in the bounce houses and the giant balls (the girls climbed inside and someone rolled them around).  Josiah discovered his fierce love for bounce houses, and threw huge tantrums when it was time for us to drag him out.  He also discovered that if he walked right up to the games, the people would let him do whatever he wanted, and then he got to grab fistfuls of candy.

The next night we attended a similar type of party at another church.  They had more bounce houses, which made this little pirate VERY happy.

The girls enjoyed being "pampered" with some nail and face painting.  And I won a huge container of over 700 small erasers.  (It was part of a guessing game.)

And finally there was Beggar's Night.  (For those who don't live around here, that's trick-or-treating on the night before Halloween.)  We started Beggar's Night at the nursing home.  Several residents were sitting outside their doors with candy to give out to the kids.  They got such a big kick of all the kids coming in all dressed up.

Then we headed home for a candy-collecting trip around the block.  And finally, the girls got to man the front door, handing out treats to any other trick-or-treaters still going around the neighborhood.  It seems funny to me, but the girls tend to like that part as much, if not more, than actually going around collecting the candy themselves.

After all the bags of candy had been dumped and sorted through, I let each girl keep a handful of their favorite pieces.  The rest went to a local dentist office's Cash-for-Candy program.  They payed one dollar for each pound of candy brought in.  The candy collected will be donated to our troops serving overseas.  The combined weight of all their candy earned the kids $8 this year!  And they also got to be on the evening news, since a TV camera man just happened to be there at the time when we came in!  Fun stuff!
