Seventh Heaven

It's the end of the weekend and we are finally finished with the birthday festivities! Well, at least for the first child. It all began on Friday, when Dad took her out for breakfast. Then she came home and got to open some birthday presents. Ashlyn couldn't wait to give her what she had picked out--bubble gum flavored chap stick. :) We also gave her a new pink scooter.

The scooter was something she had been wanting for a while. It was pretty chilly outside, but the snow had melted enough for her to be able to ride around on the deck for a while.

She also got to decide what we would have for lunch, and she asked for the day off of school. That's one nice thing about homeschooling--we have lots of flexibility when it comes to our schedule. This was actually the first time she's asked for a day off of school. And since she doesn't get teacher institute days or other days off like the kids in regular school get, it seemed a reasonable request to let her have the day off. And in case you're wondering how she used her time off, she spent the afternoon painting and reading. :)

On Saturday Grandma and Grandpa and aunt Lindsey came up for lunch. Emma was excited to get a new pair of roller skates, a new book bag that she can color, and some extra Christmas presents from her Great Grandma.

After lunch, five of her friends came over. They started out by working on some bug crafts. They decorated bug catchers, colored lady bug picture frames, and made lots of bookmarks.

After crafts, it was time for cake! At first, I wasn't sure how I would fulfill her request for a lady bug cake, complete with dirt and bugs, but finding some sugar sheets at Michaels saved the day!

When it came time to blow out the candles, Emma's aim was strangely off. She tried a few times, but finally had to enlist the help of her friends to get them all blown out.

After cake, the girls had a short dance party. (They had to burn off the sugar somehow!)

And then they settled down to watch "A Bug's Life."

After the friends left, we spent a little more time visiting with family. And after the family left, it was time to collapse! It was a fun few days of birthday excitement, but I'm glad the weekend is over. (I sound like such an old mom!)
