Here are some of the highlights of the day:
Josiah crawled around the toddler room, and found this thing with balls. He thought it was fun to get the balls, and he tried to eat one once when he thought Daddy wasn't paying attention.
Dakota and Ashlyn built a rocket and launched it across the room.
Emma wrapped a rubber egg in layers of foam and tried to "Land It Lightly." She wrapped it and tied it, and wrapped it some more. Then she sent it up the long conveyor belt, and watched it drop onto the platform below. A computer let her know if her egg would have survived the fall, had it been a real egg. It took a few tries, but she eventually got it.
We traveled through Egypt. The girls rode a camel, and Ashlyn showed the Egyptians her mad pyramid-building skills.
They wound their way through pyramid rooms, and saw a real mummy. Emma was really excited to see the mummy at first, but after she read the mummy's story, she thought it was so sad, she nearly cried. The mummy was an unidentified girl between the ages of 16-18, who had (presumably) been pulled from a river after a few days of floating there. After she was found, she was mummified. The embalmers didn't know the girl's name, so they nick named her Annie, and didn't write any name on her sarcophagus. Emma thought it was about the saddest thing she had ever heard. She didn't care to stay in Egypt anymore after that.
The girls made star shows and watched them on a giant dome ceiling. That was pretty neat. They tried other hands-on activities, checked out a bunch of snakes and a cave, and even got to be on TV during the channel 13 weather report. But nothing compared to their favorite activity of all there: the giant bubble station!
The girls are already asking if they can go back again soon. --Mostly because of the bubbles. I think they just can't get over the fact that they were aloud to make a huge mess with bubble juice, while making giant bubbles, and all this--indoors! Am I the only mean mom who won't let them do this in the living room at home? :) Thank goodness for field trips!
