Digging into December

How is it already the first week of December? I think the month of November only lasted about 2 weeks. Could we somehow apply that same time warp to January and February too? That would be awesome!

But before I can dig into December, I think I need to finish a few things from November. It's mostly for the sake of family, who like to be caught up on the things our family does throughout the months.

At the end of November, Emma sang at a children's concert at our church. (Top row, next to the tall boy.) She had a fun time and did a good job of singing her heart out. Ashlyn wanted to be up there with the kids too, and it was funny how she tried to sing along with a song or two and danced in her seat along with the kids on stage.

Later that week we traveled to Chicago for Thanksgiving/Christmas with my family. Some of the highlights were...

...getting to watch Charlie Brown's Christmas, and finding a new favorite winter hat at a gas station on the way to Chicago. (Emma let Ashlyn wear the hat for the last part of the drive.)

...visiting with my grandma on Thanksgiving morning.

...watching Emma get the turkey drum stick all to herself! We have NO idea why, but Emma claims this is her favorite part of Thanksgiving. WHY???

...celebrating two major holidays in one day. We had Christmas after Thanksgiving dinner.

...dressing up all in purple in honor of my sister attending Northwestern University. (Guess what everyone got for Christmas from her this year!)

...playing at the community center's indoor play area and carousel.

...and wishing my nephew a happy first birthday.

A few more things we were thankful for during our trip were that Ashlyn's lip didn't require stitches. (Hard fall, table, teeth, lip... 'nough said?) And Ashlyn didn't come down with as severe of a cold as Emma did (one that landed her in the ER one night before we began our trip). That Dakota and I never got the colds the girls had. And that the four of us managed to escape strep, which my nephew was diagnosed with the day after we left. Phew!

Now, on to December! Look out!
