Saturday morning, we braved the cold weather and made our way to the farmer’s market downtown. The market had a lot more pumpkins and fall items than when we were there just a few weeks earlier. The kids enjoyed helping pick out Indian corn and eating kettle corn.
Shortly after we got home, Dakota’s parents arrived. And after a big lunch, the guys got to work cutting down a big tree in our back yard. It was so sad. The tree had been a beautiful blue spruce, but somehow, somewhere along the way, it picked up needle blight. The disease quickly made its way up the tree, and by the time we had figured out what it was, it was too late to save it. So they cut it down.
I suppose on the plus side, we now have a little more space in the back yard. Maybe we can plant more of a garden or something there next year.
Once the chain saws were put away and the tree was all bundled up, it was safe to let the kids come out and play. They could have spent all day running around and playing on the swing set.
So it was no surprise that the tears came when it was time for all the Derrs to make their way back down to MO. Emma and Noah had bonded especially well, and it was cute how Noah cried out, “Emmy! Emmy!” as his mom and dad started to head out the door. He just needed one more hug from his doting cousin!
