So here are some of the pictures of this year's costumes. Emma decided almost a full year ago that she wanted to be Tinker Bell. And a friend of ours gave us this cute Strawberry Shortcake cheerleading outfit for Ashlyn.
The girls decided they should get to dress up for the whole day, and not just a few minutes while out hunting for candy. I figured, what's the harm? So I let them wear their costumes to Hy-Vee, the library, and even parent-teacher conferences at school tonight. It makes me a good mom (at least in their eyes).
Earlier this week, we took the kids (and lots of hand sanitizer) to the Great Pumpkin Party at our church. We got a sneak peek at the mountain of candy that was being carefully guarded in the candy room.
We also got to see a very cool chemistry show that included Josh lighting his hand on fire, and giant fire balls in these big water-cooler type jugs. The later part totally freaked Ashlyn out. There were 4 jugs, and even in the pitch black, Ashlyn could see when he was about to drop a match into the next one and screamed at the top of her lungs. Poor kid.
After the trauma of all that, we calmed her down with the lure of more treats. So it was off to play some games and fill up their candy bags.
Oh, and speaking of candy, since Emma has that pesky peanut allergy, she really can't eat much (if any) of her collected candy. But there is a very nice dentist in town who is offering a sweet trade for wrapped candy in the morning. He's giving kids a dollar for every pound of candy they bring in, plus a glowing toothbrush. So I told Emma we would give the dentist her candy and she could keep the money and do what she wants with it. And just so you don't think we totally deprive her of any sweet treats at this time of year, I bought a bag of her favorite candy (lollipops) and she can have those after she surrenders her trick-or-treat bounty tomorrow.

We weren't able to go to the GPP, but I thought the church was asking for peanut free donations this year? The girls look cute in their costumes. :)
They did ask for peanut-free donations, and there were some Smarties and Skittles and those sorts in the mix. But it was still mostly Reeses and Snickers and M&M's, and all those other candies that Emma can't eat. And then you wonder about cross contamination. Since her allergy levels went up this past year, we're trying to be a little more careful about that sort of thing.
That first picture you got of Josh with the fire on his hand is awesome. Would you mind if we used it on his website?
Sorry about the fire jugs...my kids hate those, too. Hannah is still freaked out by them and she has seen the show more times than I can count.
