Red Noses and Santa Claus Tears ...or Christmas is Here!

About half way through the Christmas season we headed to the mall to do a little Christmas shopping.  I have yet to figure out how to do Christmas shopping at the mall with 3 kids, and avoid paying a visit to the big man in red.  Especially when there's no line.

Last year Josiah did fine, and even seemed to like Santa.  This year was another story.  Emma lead Josiah down the red carpet, and all was going well until they got to the end of the red carpet.  There was Santa!  The boy would have bolted, but Santa was well trained, with an iron grip to make even the squirmiest of kids stay for one picture.  Emma tried to comfort him, but to no avail.

After the photo op, Josiah was released, and everything was fine again.  The big sisters had a chance to chat with Santa, and we visited some of the other holiday decorations.

A couple days later a package arrived in the mail from my aunt.  It contained gifts for the kids, and some fun blinking red reindeer noses.

The rest of the lead-up to Christmas consisted of Christmas parties, concerts, gift making and wrapping.  It was a busy time!

Finally, after what the children deemed, an agonizing wait, Christmas day arrived!

The girls excitedly handed out the presents and tore into their own.  Josiah was less excited about opening his gifts, and more interested in piling stuffed animals and toys onto the couch.  After the Christmas carnage was cleaned up (at least enough so we could find the floor again) playtime began!

Josiah built stacks of cardboard bricks and knocked them down.  The girls explored their Discovery laptops.  And everyone worked on building a tall marble-roller-coaster thing.  (Except for me--I took pictures.)

Then we made a big brunch, complete with homemade cinnamon rolls.  And we all took afternoon naps.  (Not all gifts come wrapped in boxes and bows!)

After our naps, we got all dressed up and headed for the nursing home.  We enjoy going on Christmas day, handing out cards and candies, and playing music for the residents there.

Merry Christmas (even if it is a few days late) from our family to yours!
