Pre-Christmas Christmas (with Batman!)

Not to be confused with ThanksMas, which was the post-Thanksgiving, pre-December Christmas.

The weekend before Christmas (a day and a half after the blizzard hit), we packed up our van and headed south.  With crossed fingers, and white knuckles, we slowly made our way down I-35.  We feel like we can now confidently say we have the experience required for driving atop bumpy, icy glaciers.  But that doesn't mean we want to do that again!

Once we got about 30 minutes south of Des Moines, the roads slowly began to improve.  Southern IA and northern MO were smooth sailing.

This year's gathering at the farm was the first time in a long time that all the family was together.  So, of course we had to take a picture of that.

In the afternoon, there was playtime, and presents, and a puppy!  I freely admit that I am about the furthest thing from a dog-person that you'll find.  But even I thought this was the cutest little puppy ever.  (He was one of Noah's Christmas gifts, which arrived a little early.)  The kids all loved him!  But don't get any ideas--dogs (even cute ones) belong in other peoples' houses, not mine.

Ashlyn and Lindsey decorated the rainbow unicorn with bows.

While Josiah read book after book with his grandma.

Oh, and Batman made an appearance!  What is Christmas without Batman?!  He practiced his bat-tastic tackling skills on Sonny.  Good times!

Other events of the weekend included a brief visit to the hotel pool, and church services at our favorite church from college days.
The weekend came to an end as quickly as it began, and we were back on the road for home again.  Thanks to everyone for the fun times and fun gifts.  We look forward to the next great gathering!
