We'll start with a few pictures from the photo shoot I did in our front room.
Next, we had a few early Christmas gifts that came in the mail. A high chair for Ashlyn, and the American Girl doll, Addy, for Emma. Addy was Emma's most coveted gift this year. After she received Addy, she told Santa in the mall that she had already gotten what she wanted for Christmas this year!
There was also a box of goodies that came from Texas.
Then came a trip to the Derr farm a few days before Christmas. The threat of bad weather caused us to cut our trip short again this year. That's 4 of the last 4 years that we've had to change travel plans at Christmas on account of bad weather.
The girls enjoyed a driving lesson from Grandpa Derr.
They also enjoyed feeding the goats. Ashlyn has told me on multiple occasions that someday she will live on a farm and have lots of animals to feed.
And Ashlyn loved her light-up microphone thing that plays the same Cinderella song over, and over, and over, and... well, you get the point.
Next came Christmas at our house. Always a fun event! Though, Emma said that when it comes to the presents and the big Christmas brunch we make, it's a toss up as to which she likes better. She said her favorite part of Christmas morning is getting to eat cinnamon rolls with colored icing, that are made into some sort of shape as a birthday cake for baby Jesus.
Dakota's favorite gift was this African djembe drum. The girls also thought this was a great gift!
Later in the afternoon, we paid a visit to the nursing home, as we've done each year on Christmas day since Emma was one. Dakota played piano while the girls handed out Christmas cards. Then toward the end, Emma took over at the piano, and the girls sang a song or two.
And that about wraps up Christmas around here! The time between Christmas and New Years was pretty calm. We tried to get the house cleaned up and take advantage of some after-Christmas sales. I had planned to wait until January to start homeschool again, but Emma insisted (begged) that we begin again a few days after Christmas. She didn't even like the idea of stopping for a few days before Christmas when the schools around here let out. I'm sure it won't always be this way, so I'll enjoy her enthusiasm while it lasts.
Well, here's to wishing our family and yours a healthy and happy 2011! It'll be a year of changes and adventures for sure!
