The week leading up to her birthday was rather tumultuous. I'll spare you the details, but the two younger kids came down with the stomach bug mid week, and we didn't know if anyone else would come down with it, or if we'd have to cancel Emma's party over the weekend. Fortunately it was limited to that one day, and just the two kids, so the party went on as planned.
Emma's party had a dolphin theme. The first thing we did when the girls arrived was a melted crayon project. Before the party, I sharpened LOTS of crayons, and cut dolphin shapes out of card stock. When the girls arrived, they sprinkled crayon shavings on the paper, which I then melted with the iron. We folded the side with the dolphin cut-out over the top, and voila--instant artwork!
After that, the girls practiced eating like dolphins. Dolphin eat fish, and they don't have hands. So naturally, they had to try eating Goldfish crackers by throwing them in the air and catching them in their mouths. They practiced for a while, and then we had a contest to see who could catch the most Goldfish in their mouths.
Then the girls took a quiz to test their dolphin knowledge. Even I learned some facts about dolphins!
After that, of course, there was cake. Emma requested an ice cream cake with a dolphin design.
Finally, the girls gathered in the family room to watch Dolphin Tale 2.
It was a fun birthday party with such a nice group of girls!
On her actual birthday, she got a partial day off of school, a new karaoke machine, and the movie Annie. We also spent some time painting in the afternoon. But we didn't quite finish the paintings, so that picture will have to wait for another post.
Happy birthday to my Emma. How 10 years have managed to pass since you joined our family, I'll never know!
