Dakota's parents also brought with them a cake he had ordered. Remembering my comments about our wedding cake being the best tasting cake I'd ever had, Dakota tracked down the baker in Missouri and asked if she would make another cake for us. It's hard to remember if it tastes exactly like it did 10 years ago, but it does taste good!
The next day, Dakota took the day off of work again as part 2 of his anniversary gift to me--it was a "honeydew" day, with him working on completing as many tasks off of our honey-do list as he could.
The third and final day of our drawn out celebration included a dinner out with friends. Dakota said he always envisioned us going on a cruise or some fancy trip for our 10th anniversary. But having a baby two months before kind of throws a kink into that. So we saved the trip for another time and enjoyed the company of friends for the evening. It was just as good.
We had a great time, sharing countless tasty dishes and lots of good stories. We dinned at Trostel's Dish, where the idea is to order several smaller-portioned items from the menu, and then send them around the giant lazy susan in the middle of the table for everyone to try. That way, instead of just getting one meal, you get to try endless combinations of food from the menu. It's a fun way to do dinner with a big group of friends.
And the stories around the table were just as good as the food! We heard about a flower girl who gave herself a mullet hair cut just days before the wedding, a groom who miraculously survived a near-death experience on his honeymoon, and multiple encounters with shag carpeting. And no, shag carpet should definitely NOT make a comeback, especially not on walls!
Thank you to all who helped make our anniversary fun and memorable. And thank you to Dakota, for your extraordinary survival skills, which have enabled you to still be standing after 10 years of marriage to me. ;) The past 10 years have definitely been an interesting journey. Can't wait to see where the next 10 take us!
