The Last Couple Weeks

Since the school year started up again, our lives have gone back to schedule mode, and I'm finding there is less time for catching up on some of the "extras" in my day (blogging unfortunately included). But here is a quick update of what we've been up to over the past couple weeks.

September is library card month around here, and our library is encouraging kids to sign up for their own library cards. So I took a very excited Emma over to get her own card. In addition to her card, she received a book bag, a pencil and a sticker. She also got to have her picture taken and hung on the wall in the kid's area. She's pretty excited to have her own card, and she loves that she can check out her own books with the automatic book-checker-outer thing, using her own card now.

Emma has also been busy with her big sister duties, which she appears to think include putting Ashlyn's shoes on when we go for a walk. Ashlyn enjoys the attention from Emma, and liked that her big sister was helping with her shoes. I enjoy how my girls get along so well right now (hope it will last forever!).

Then over Labor Day weekend, my mom and step dad came out for a visit. We went downtown to the farmer's market on Saturday morning. It was a beautiful morning for it, and we had a good time walking around there. One vendor had a booth selling honey and a small window of bees, giving everyone an inside view of what they do in their hives all day. Emma thought it was pretty fascinating.

The rest of the Labor Day weekend was spent reading endless numbers of books to my little book worms, and going for walks around the neighborhood. We often take after-dinner walks to TCBY when my family visits, much to Emma's delight. And another evening, we walked over to the field behind the jr. high, where the girls love to run around. The night we were there, the girls found football tackling dummies in the field. Emma tried attacking it, but she ended up looking more like the one who was attacked. And Ashlyn, ever insistent on doing whatever her big sister is doing, had to run up and hit the dummy too.

Then last week Emma started Cubbies (part of the AWANAS program at our church), and we took turns passing around a cold. The girls are finishing theirs up right now. I think that's about it for now. Happy Monday!
