How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was very good. We went down to Dakota’s family’s farm for a few days. All the family was there—and that doesn’t happen very often! We stuffed ourselves silly, because there was just so much good food! Emma decided she now loves ham. She’s tried it before, and not liked it at all, but maybe there’s something different about the way Grandma makes it. And in between eating and napping, we played games, explored the farm, and just hung out together.
We had a couple of funny stories from our time there. The first was that Emma got to drive a tractor. Grandpa worked the pedals for her, but once they got out onto the road, he let her steer. Even though we couldn’t see from where we were behind them, we could tell when Emma started driving. The tractor weaved from one side of the road to the other. It was funny to watch, and Emma thought it was very exciting to get to do.
While we were out watching Emma have her first driving lesson, Ashlyn was napping back in the house, with her aunt and uncle watching over her. We thought it would be fine to leave, since she was sleeping. See, she’s very much a mommy and daddy’s girl—she doesn’t mind other people playing with her (usually) but she doesn’t like to have anyone but mom or dad hold her. After a while, we got a call that Ashlyn was awake. I headed back to the house, and when I got inside, I found Sonny wearing Dakota’s winter coat, and holding Ashlyn. It was a funny site, but it was doing the trick. Sonny had the hood up, so Ashlyn couldn’t see who was inside. And the coat smelled like Dakota, so she just assumed that’s who had her. She was content to sit in his arms, and was none-the-wiser that someone besides her mom or dad had her.
Since we were out on the farm, we didn’t get to do much Black Friday scavenging. I headed to town with Dakota’s mom for about an hour, and the only place we went was to Walmart. I have to say, I was very surprised that their Super Walmart was LESS busy on Black Friday than any of ours are on any average Saturday or Sunday. We found a few good deals on things, mostly for the girls, and then headed back to the farm for more eating.
Our time there was fun, but it was nice to come back home and sleep in our own beds again. We got home just in time to put up some Christmas lights on Saturday afternoon, and then find ourselves blanketed in snow by the end of the day. We were thankful to not have to drive home in the snow, and that we were able to get the lights up before the worst of it.
