The Greatest Show on Earth

Yesterday we crossed an item off of the family bucket list--Go to the Circus!  We told the kids we were going to a "show" but didn't tell them what it was.  For a week they were guessing all kinds of movies that we might be taking them to.  But we were mean parents and wouldn't tell them what the surprise was.

We got to the "show" early, since we heard they were having a pre-show experience for kids, behind the scenes and on the floor with the circus performers.  We were among the first to arrive, and that's when the girls figured out our surprise.

We got to see back stage for a couple minutes before snagging seats on the ring.  The performers came out dancing, and then pulled kids in the audience up to dance with them.

They brought out a camel and an elephant and showed us a couple tricks.

And they picked kids from the audience to come up for different stunts or to try parts of the circus acts.  Ashlyn got to be part of the juggling act, and tried juggling a scarf.

Emma got to try a mini version of the tight rope.
(That's her in the pink shirt in the back.)

Josiah went up with all the kids in the end for the dance party.  He was really getting into it, and it cracked me up to watch him. (He's in the stripped shirt, up in the middle right next to the clown's platform.)

After the pre-show, we found our actual seats and waited for the real show to start.

And Josiah entertained us with more dancing.

The kids all said one of their favorite parts was seeing the elephants.  (I didn't get the best pics of them, but you get the idea.)  And if you're not sure what that is, it's an elephant doing a headstand!

In the end, Emma was so impressed and said it really was the GREATEST show on earth!  She and Ashlyn were trying to make their own circus today after they were done with their school work.  It was really fun to see them get so excited about it!
