Peanut Allergy Update

It's been about six weeks since Emma started eating peanuts every day.  She started small, with about 4 peanuts a day.  Right now she's up to 15 peanuts a day, and has shown no adverse reactions what so ever.  The allergist has said to start letting her have small amounts of other things that have unmeasured amounts of peanuts or peanut butter in them.  So she got to enjoy a small Reeses peanut butter cup for the first time the other day.  And she's got a snack-sized Snickers that she's looking forward to trying, too.

We are beyond blessed that her body has handled the increased doses without any problems, and that she gets to be one of the very few who actually outgrow the peanut allergy.

As a result of her body tolerating peanuts now, she's had some other fun first-time experiences recently.  The day before we left for our trip to Chicago, she got to go to camp for a day.  She's always wanted to go to summer camp, but we've been unable to let her on account of food safety issues.  But this year she was able to go for a one-day camp experience with her youth group from church.

For the first time, she/we didn't have to worry about what food they were serving, and she got to sit with her friends and eat what everyone else was eating!  She was pretty excited about that.

Our trip to Chicago was also the first trip we've taken where we didn't have to worry about bringing "safe" meals and snacks for her on every outing.  It was the first time we didn't have to ask about ingredients, food preparation, or to be able to see nutrition labels.  It probably seems insignificant to anyone who doesn't have to think about those sorts of things on a daily basis, but it felt pretty amazing to us to be free of that worry.

Anyway, I just wanted to post an update, since I know some family members have been curious about her progress.  Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement for her.  She may not say it, but I know it means a lot to her.
