Chicago--Wrapping it Up!

The day after the museum, we kept it close to home again. The kids played in the back yard for a while until the fun place we were planning to go to opened.

There's a great little place just a few blocks from my family's house called Pirate's Cove.  A little gem tucked away in the Chicago suburbs.  My parents used to take my sister and me there when we were little.  It's kind of a miniature amusement park for young kids (perfect for ages 10 and under).

They have a pirate dragon, and big slides...

and a couple types of trains...

and a pirate ship, and paddle boats...

and a big climbing structure, and an old fashioned merry-go-round, and a big parrot, and...

Well, you'll just have to visit it to see for yourself sometime! Also, here's a tip--go in the afternoon and your kids will practically have the park to themselves!

When we were done with Pirate's Cove in the afternoon, the kids came back to a big surprise--a bounce house!  My mom ordered a big bounce house for the large family party that she was hosting the next day.

Everyone had fun taking turns in it! Even my mom couldn't resist the urge!

And my step dad found a graceful(?) way to exit the bounce house.

The next morning my youngest sister came home from college. She and my other sister had bought matching tops and insisted we all wear them. So I humored them.

We played some more on the bounce house before all the guests arrived.
(Like mother like daughter in this shot.)

The party in the afternoon and evening was to celebrate several things--my step dad's and my uncle's retirements, and my sister's 21st birthday. There was a pretty large crowd, and it was good to catch up with extended family we don't often get to see.

The next morning, we accompanied my sisters to church, before packing up the van and heading for home. We had a great time, but the week went too quickly!  We might have to make this an annual summer trip!
