Less Hair and More Teeth

In addition to baking my first pumpkin and first pumpkin pie last week, a couple of the kiddos had some of their own firsts.

At three and a half years old, Ashlyn had her first hair cut. Since her hair is curly, it doesn't really look that long. But it was getting to where it was hard to style because the top was heavy and not curling well, while the bottom was curling tightly. It was time for a trim and some layers.

For a long time Ashlyn had been asking when she could go get a hair cut. But when the time finally came, she didn't want to go. She said she was afraid it would hurt--as though getting your hair cut might be like getting a cut on your finger or knee. And while I was able to get her to the hair stylist, she didn't crack a smile the whole time she was in the chair.

When the cut was finished and Ashlyn was asked if she wanted the lady to make her hair straight or curly, she picked straight. So here are some before and after pictures. It's hard to tell the difference since her hair is straight after the cut, and straightening the curls makes her hair look longer.

A couple days after that, Josiah cut his first tooth. It's hard to see because he is almost always blowing raspberries or sticking his tongue out. We couldn't figure out why he was doing so much of that, until I stuck my finger in his mouth. Then it made sense. I'm guessing he's trying to figure out how to flick or spit that strange thing out. :)
